What fraction of the mixture in the large container is orange juice?

Two 600ml pitchers contain orange juice. One pitcher is 1/3 full and the other pitcher is 2/5 full. Water is added to fill each pitcher completely, then both pitchers are poured into one large container. What fraction of the mixture in the large container is orange juice?

What fraction of the mixture in the large container is orange juice?
85/300

400ml+360ml=760 the amount of water added.

1200-760=440

440/1200=36 2/3%

same as 11/30
Reply:Pitcher #1 is 600 x 1/3 = 200 ml of OJ

Pitcher #2 is 600 x 2/5 = 240 ml of OJ

Total OJ is 440 ml.

The large container will have 1200 ml of liquid.

The fraction of OJ is 440 / 1200 = 11/30
Reply:Isn't it 1/3 + 2/5 = 11/15 because you combine both pitchers together to fill into one large container?
Reply:First pitcher has 600/3=200mL= .2L of OJ, second has2x600/5=.4x600mL= .24L of OJ. Both together = .44L of OJ. Large container has 1.2L of liquid, .44L OJ so the fraction is .44/1.2 or 44/120=11/30=.367 or 36.7%
