Are white fleshed and orange fleshed sweet potatoes interchangeable?

I bought two identical looking sweet potatoes for my valentines dinner. When I just peeled them, one had white flesh and one had orange flesh. (I was expecting both to be orange!) Can I still make mashed sweet potatoes and have them taste right, or do I have to drag myself and my 6 month old BACK to the grocery store to buy an orange one?

Are white fleshed and orange fleshed sweet potatoes interchangeable?
They do taste slightly different - one is a bit sweeter. Use both and add a little honey or sugar if necessary. You should be fine with what you have!
Reply:There is not much difference in taste.Go ahead and mash them.Taste for sweetness and adjust the sweetener you are using to suit your taste.

How do I get the orange color out of my bleached hair ?

I bleach my hair blonde , afer a week or so it gets discolored,

a little reddish orange . What can I do about this ?

How do I get the orange color out of my bleached hair ?
you cant..you just have to recolor your hair. i suggest a hair product that promises 100% total coverage..and if you want some color in your hair go with a multi-deminsion hair color....my friend had the same problem
Reply:The orange you are getting is from minerals in your water, try using a shampoo called Malibu 2000 to remove it out of the hair! when bleaching the hair make sure you leave it on long enough .... most people take it off to quickly AND END UP IN THE ORANGE/RED STAGE. Report It

Reply:you need to dye it ash blonde ,it gets rid of the orange.
Reply:Then dye it again with the original colour of your hair. Easy.

What is the importance of an orange in the human diet?

How long can a miniature orange tree go without being watered?

I am leaving town and I wont be able to water my miniature orange for 8 days. I usually water it every 5 days or so. Will it be ok to go that long without water or do I need to take it with me?

How long can a miniature orange tree go without being watered?
If it's in a clay pot, you can put the pot into a plastic bag and pull it over the clay and over the soil and secure around the trunk. That will give you a extra day or so. You can also wrap the plant in clear plastic or under a clear plastic tent.....AWAY from direct sunlight and set the pot onto a try filled with gravel and water in the tray for evaporative moisture. Gravel keeps the pot bottom out of the water.

If you have time to experiment, you can take a water holding vessel, say a 32 ounce foam cup, poke a tiny hole in the bottom. See how long it takes for water to drip though, put some plastic over the top of the vessel to eliminate evaporation loss. With trial and error you might come up with something that will drip slowly enough to keep your plant going without water logging the soil.
Reply:Can you get a neighbor or their kid to come over on the 5th day and water it? You can always return the favor some day... I like the cup/hole idea too... what about a liter soda bottle with cheesecloth rubber-banded over the end? You could bury it upside down a couple inches in the soil and it would slowly disperse the water.
Reply:Is it in a pot?, can you move it to the shade? I'd get some of the polymer (like polysorb) crystals, and make a few pencil holes and pour them in. Water well when you leave and you should be good. I've left my plants in my husbands TLC for a month now......Without polysorb...I'd be going home to a bunch of dead plants.
Reply:I have a large miniature orange tree (hmm...oxymoron :) in a 10 gallon plastic pot and I've left it go about two weeks without water because I'm in college and it sits right by my window and I can't seem to get the energy to water it.

Whats the difference between an orange and a clementine?

Random i know - but they just look the same.

They might be a type of orange, i'm just curious.

Whats the difference between an orange and a clementine?
A clementine is the fruit of a variety of mandarin (Citrus reticulata), named in 1902. A clementine is an oblate, medium-sized fruit. The exterior is a deep orange colour with a smooth, glossy appearance. Clementines separate easily into eight to fourteen extremely juicy segments. They are remarkably easy to peel, like a tangerine, but lack the tangerine's sourness and seeds.

See the rest of the article at the link below...

Reply:A mandarin is a type of orange. They are grown throughout the world, but in the United States most of them come from California. Because they are picked late fall through winter, they are often referred to as "Christmas Oranges".
Reply:A clementine is a tangerine.
Reply:A clementine is a varity of the manderin. They are much easier to peel than a regular orange, much like a tangerine but with out the sourness. They are also a bit bigger than an orange.
Reply:they're like an orange but smaller and seedless (well, sometimes u might find one or two, but that means u just found a wierd one)

How do you get an orange drink stain out of carpet?

Alright, my grandma spilt orange drink on the carpet and it won't come out. We even called the carpet cleaners and they couldn't get it out. Does anybody know of a way to get it out?

The drink was called Orangette btw, if that helps any.

How do you get an orange drink stain out of carpet?
When people ask how to remove a stain they need to tell what colour it is and if clothes what are they made of.
Reply:I love oxyclean!! or try just straight vinegar. if that does not work try making a thick paste with baking soda and vinegar, and rub it into the stain. What color is the carpet? You could just get a fabric dye and recolor that area of carpet. Or you could move a piece of furniture or rug over the stain.
Reply:if the carpet is light in color, mix baking soda with peroxide to form a paste and brush it on lightly. Since the professionals have already used something on it, you might have to live with it. Consider an area rug.
Reply:you get some soap and let it sit in the carpet. the wash it out later
Reply:I would try Oxy Steam Clean!

If that doesn't work you could try a mild bleach solution. But try that in an inconspicuous place in case it bleaches the carpet.

Or try Butcher's spot remover.

I am surprised that the professionals couldn't get it out!

I cleaned carpets in a high school and you'd be surprised what gets on the carpets, and we always got the stains out. We used Butcher's products and steam or hot water extraction. Even got Iodine stain in carpet.

How can I use olive oil infused with orange?

I was given a bottle of olive oil infused with orange (probably extract as there isn't any actual orange pulp or peel visible in it) as a gift and I don't have any recipes for using it. Any suggestions?

How can I use olive oil infused with orange?
Make an orange salad:

+ two blood oranges

+ small red onion

+ black olives (kalamata)

use your olive oil and some white vinegar

Peel and slice the oranges into wheels, cut onion into paper thin wheels, add to a sald bowl. Put in a few olives and dress with your olive oil and some white vinegar, salt.
Reply:Carrot Soup with Orange-Infused Olive Oil and Prosciutto Chips

Serves 4 to 6

Carrots and oranges have a natural affinity, so the finishing of this soup with an orange-infused olive oil creates a soup that is elegant and subtle.

--------------------------------------...

INGREDIENTS:

1 teaspoon extra-virgin olive oil

2 tablespoons shallots, minced

1 pound carrots, peeled and cut into 1-inch pieces

2 cups non-fat chicken broth

1 teaspoon sea salt

1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

1 tablespoon orange-infused extra-virgin olive oil

2 ounces thin-sliced prosciutto cut into ¼-inch strips

--------------------------------------...

PREPARATION:

1. Preheat the over to 325 degrees Fahrenheit. Cut the pork into 2-inch pieces. Dry the pieces well and season with coarse sea salt and pepper. Using a Dutch oven, add the lard and render it over low heat. You should have enough fat to cover the bottom of the pan about one-quarter inch deep.

2. When the fat has melted, increase the heat, and add a few pieces at a time; brown the meat on all sides. Once the pieces are brown, remove them and place in a bowl to the side for later use.

3. To the fat in the Dutch oven, add the onions, leeks, and carrots. Sauté for a few minutes until the onion edges start to brown.

4. Pour in the red wine and scrape the bits clinging to the bottom of the Dutch oven. Return the meat and the juices that have collected in the bowl to the Dutch oven, then stir in the rosemary.

5. Cover the Dutch oven and put in the oven. Cook the pork, stirring from time to time, until it is tender enough to cut with a spoon and some of the pieces are slightly ragged. This will take about 3 hours.

6. To finish, remove the carrots, and discard them, because they have given up their flavor to the sauce. Stir in the Dijon mustard and capers, plus a little more fresh rosemary. Serve it very hot. Any leftovers make a sumptuous sauce for pasta.

What is the difference in orange juice - fresh & from concentrate?

I know the fresh is right out of the orange and the other is made from a concentrate - probably a frozen type. But is there a nutritional difference?

What is the difference in orange juice - fresh %26amp; from concentrate?
the cooking that is necessary to concentrate a juice destroys the natural vitamin C, but they add that back.

however...we don't know that we have identified all the nutrients there are, and as such, it's impossible to know what other nutrients may exist in fresh juice which are also destroyed in the cooking process, but not replaced.

current scientific evidence is that they are nutritionally the same...but scientists note that we can't be sure we've identified all possible vitamins and minerals that exist. no way to be sure unless you use fresh.
Reply:Juice 'from concentrate' has been concentrated (water removed), and then returned to its original state by adding water.

'From concentrate' is supposed to be equivalent to regular juice.
Reply:Concentrated juice has added water I think.
Reply:You can also buy "fresh" not from concentrate, which is best as far as "bottled" juice is concerned. But I love fresh squeezed OJ from Valencia oranges, which I make every day. Completely different flavor. Don't use Navel oranges for juice, they are better for eating.

How do you make lemon, orange and apple seeds grow?

I planted an orange seed 3 days ago and it hasnt even sprouted a root!

How do you make lemon, orange and apple seeds grow?
It could be that the seed wasn't fully ripened when picked. I have eaten Grapefruit and the seed inside had a long root. Apples or any fruit grown in the cold climates have to stratified, that is they need about 6-8 weeks of uninterrupted cold. Give the orange another week. Maybe you should give it a little bottom heat and get the temps up to about 70-75 degrees as this helps them to sprout faster. Keep it moist but not soaking
Reply:Try this site

http://www.backyardgardener.com/masterg/...
Reply:Have patience. Sometimes it's a week or two before you see anything.

Also - if the fruit was irradiated (as some grocery items are), it very well could render the seed not viable.
Reply:First answer is viable, although if you want oranges on the tree, you will have to purchase a rooted plant.
Reply:Be patient. Three days is NOT long enough. Give it a month or two.

How long can you leave orange juice out before it goes bad?

I left a carton of orange juice out for 2-3 hours and it tastes fine. Do you think it's bad?

How long can you leave orange juice out before it goes bad?
...... Orange juice packaged in this manner has a shelf life of 6-8 months at room temperature.
Reply:me personally, if it got warm, I don't want it. 2 hours doesn't seem too long but, I would definitely finish the bottle soon.
Reply:OHHH MY GOD YES YOUR GINNA DIE!!!!! It will eat at the inside of your stomache and s l o w l y and painfully kill you!!!! RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!!!
Reply:2-3 hours is not even a concern. It would take 2 or 3 days for it to ferment. You'll know by the taste when it's gone bad.
Reply:I think it would be fine ive left orange juice out longer than that and it tasted ok to me! i think before it goes bad you can have it up to 2 weeks than its time to throw that baby out!
Reply:I'm sure it's fine, but if you put it back in the fridge, it won't keep for as long as it would have if you hadn't left it out. I hope that makes sense. Instead of storing it for a week, you can store it for maybe 3-4 days now.

Fruit juice, especially acidic fruit juices, do not spoil that quickly.

Where can I buy an orange set of a washing machine and a dryer?

I saw them everywhere 2 years ago, now all I can find are red, stainless steel, black, blue, and white/bisque/etc.

I want a pair of orange ones. They are front loading, btw.

Thanks for your help.

Where can I buy an orange set of a washing machine and a dryer?
or get any washer %26amp; dryer. Then scuff them a little bit with 320 grit sand paper. Then wipe off all the dust. And use primer. Then use any color paint from spray cans. From a hardware store. It will be totally dry in 3-4 days %26amp; polish them. by hand. to get the paint marks out. ( dry looking lines ) then wax them. they'll look like new. You have to scuff them with 320 grit sand paper so the new primer %26amp; paint has something to stick to. Or it will flake off. Even the corners. I do auto body.. ~¿^
Reply:ORANGE????

Remember when Stainless Steel was the big thing?? What are you going to do when white comes back in?
Reply:I think I saw a commercial for Sears that had I guess what you would call orange, maybe burnt orange. It's the new ones, and they have a big price tag on them. If not there, try Home Depot. Wish I had a set of them, white has to be cleaned so often.
Reply:Sedona Elite HE4T Washer/Dryer has the burnt orange one... both are front loading... have fun...
Reply:you should try home depo or lowes home improvment.ask one of the people who works in that section to see if they can order it.if that dont work try ebay.
Reply:those were kenmore and very expensive, im not sure if they changed their colors or not, not much you can do if they dont sell them unless you advertise that you want a set in the newspaper and hope someone wants to part with theirs.

How to get rid of orange stains from fake tan?

I recently used a slow fake tan. One that takes a while to build up. But one time i forgot to wash my hands and they are abit orange. I also accidently put some on the bottom of my feet, as it is a moisturising fake tan (Holiday Skin Body Moisturiser). I was just wondering if someone could possibly tell me how to get rid of the orangeness. Many thanks.

How to get rid of orange stains from fake tan?
1/4 cup of lemon juice, 1/2 cup of salt and a loofa. Then scrub really well.
Reply:I agree with "Just Me". The sugar scrub should help.
Reply:Get yourself a salt or sugar scrub, and exfoliating gloves...(I think Wal Mart has them)

Soak the orange parts in baby oil for as long as you can, and then use the glove/scrub to really "scrub" away the oranginess....
Reply:Uh don't get fake tans. Go 2 the beach. Fake tans r 2 cheap looking.

What route is faster to big bear from orange county this weekend?

Taking into consideration that we had a lot of snow this past week and that it is a weekend and many people are going to hit the slopes, what route is faster...

Orange county to big bear via the 330 - chains required, more traffic, shorter distance

or

Orange county to big bear via the 18 - chains optional, less traffic, longer distance.

Does anyone have any experience driving this under these conditions?

What route is faster to big bear from orange county this weekend?
The front way is 330 to 18 through Running Springs. The back way is 38 to 18 through Forest Falls.

Just so you know, chains are required on the 38 as well.

If you get an early start, the most direct way is the fastest. Otherwise, you might want to go via 38.

However, there is one route you didn't mention. If you take 15 north and take the Bear Valley cutoff to Lucerne Valley, you can avoid a lot of the mountain driving. It's definitely longer, but a good alternate on crazy weekends like this one.

EVERYONE wants to get on the mountain this weekend. I would wait a week.
Reply:i haven't been to big bear yet-i'm going this weekend too-but all that i've heard is that it's best to take the alternative route going home (i.e. for you the 18). for me, since i live in SD, the 38.
Reply:some roads are closed so check first.

How can I help my orange tree to grow?

I bought and planted a little baby orange tree (Washington navel) about 2 years ago, and then neglected it. I don't know how it survived without being watered! It has gotten so dry in the past that all of its leaves have fallen off. It is about the same size as when I bought it 2 years ago (so sad). It does have leaves at least now, although sparse. I put citrus fertilizer on it, and have started watering it daily. Is there anything else I can do to help my sick little tree to grow up healthy and strong?

How can I help my orange tree to grow?
Aerate (poke holes in dirt) around it along the drip line (where the leaves extend), water weekly (not daily) and fertilize monthly.

Does anyone have an orange pie recipe?

Many years ago, we would go to San Francisco Chinatown to buy an orange pie. It was delicious with a mild orange flavor, not too sweet. That restaurant closed and I can't find the pie anywhere. It was in a prebaked crust, had whipped cream on top, pie was refrigerated, filling was orange gelatin (not a custard). I've asked others but no one seems to have any suggestions.

Does anyone have an orange pie recipe?
Orange Meringue Pie

This orange meringue pie is adapted from a 1940 Sunkist™ recipe booklet.

1 cup sugar

5 tablespoons cornstarch

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 tablespoon grated orange peel

2 cups Sunkist orange juice

3 egg yolks

1 tablespoon butter

2 tablespoons Sunkist lemon juice

3 egg whites

6 tablespoons sugar

9-inch baked pastry shell or baked orange pastry (below)

Mix sugar, cornstarch, salt, and grated orange peel in top of double boiler. Add orange juice and cook over boiling water, stirring constantly, until thickened, about 15 minutes. Stir in beaten egg yolks and cook another 2 minutes. Remove from heat; add butter and lemon juice. Cool filling slightly . Pour orange filling into a baked 9-inch pastry shell. Beat egg whites until frothy; gradually beat in sugar. Continue beating until stiff peaks form. Cover with meringue all the way to edges. Bake at 350° for about 15 minutes, or until nicely browned.

This sounds closer to what you might be looking for:

Key Orange Pie

1 cup Heavy cream

1/4 cup Cold water

1 package Unflavored gelatin

6 ounces frozen orange juice concentrate, undiluted

8 ounces cream cheese, softened

3/4 cup confectioners' sugar

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

2 tablespoons Grand Marnier

9 to 10-inch graham cracker crust

orange slices for garnish

Put the cream into a small saucepan over high heat. Just before it comes to a boil, put the cold water into a blender and sprinkle in the gelatin, where it should stand for a minute or so. Add the boiling cream to the blender, process on low until all of the gelatin has dissolved (2-3 min.). Add the concentrated orange juice, cream cheese, sugar, vanilla, and Grand Marnier; process until it is all well blended. Chill for 15 to 20 minutes; pour into the crust and chill until it firms up.

Garnish with orange slices or whole raspberries, strawberries, or blackberries and serve.

How do I get my Orange wing amazon to be more friendly?

I have an 8 month old orange wing amazon. He has quite the personality. I play with him daily. Yet I cannot get him to step up or not squak at me the minute I get near his cage. I am firm but always loving and caring. I want him to be more receptive to my affection but still know I am the boss.

How do I get my Orange wing amazon to be more friendly?
Orange wings are one person birds (I have one too, had him for about 22 years now).

The only suggestion I can give you is to play with him daily, as you are, but do it for short periods multiple times a day. 5 minutes now, 5 minutes in a couple of hours, etc........ either it will warm up to you, or you are not it's chosen "person". Giving it treats is a good way to get it to warm up to you as well. Try pumpkin, papaya, orange veggies are really good, like yams.......... fruit is OK but only as an occasional treat. Make sure you take any fresh food out of the cage after about 3 hours so it doesn't spoil.

Is there someone else in your house that the bird has bonded to? My bird loves me but HATES my husband and anyone else who gets near him. Good luck!!
Reply:How high is his cage? Height is a very important status symbol for birds. If the cage puts him fairly high up in relation to you lowering his cage may make him more docile

Why are my miniature orange trees new leaves a different color?

I have a miniature orange tree and just recently it has put on quite a few new leaves in the upper part of the tree. The leaves are big now, but instead of them being dark and glossy like the rest of the tree's leaves, they are a lighter shade of green. Have they just not matured yet?

Why are my miniature orange trees new leaves a different color?
That is normal. The leaves will darken as they age.
Reply:Those first leaves do have a green-gold color. It's because they're filled with chlorophyll A,which has that color. Later leaves have darker chlorophyll B.

Per a poem by Robert Frost:

NOTHING GOLD CAN STAY

Nature’s first green is gold,

Her hardest hue to hold.

Her early leaf’s a flower;

But only so an hour.

Then leaf subsides to leaf.

So Eden sank to grief,

So dawn goes down to day.

Nothing gold can stay.
Reply:Indeed this is very typical behavior for all citrus not jsut minature oranges.

The new leaves will be softer, more flexible, brighter and lighter almost a chartruese as they age they will turn into the more rigid harder dark green leave.

Nothing to be concerned about sounds like you have a healthy robust plant and new growth is most always to be desired.

Best ;-)
Reply:They will darken with time.

How to get the orange color out of blonde highlights?

I have naturally dark brown hair that I recently highlighted blonde with bleach (done this lots of times before) this time though I am determined to get the orange tint out of it, what sort of product do I buy to fix my problem?

How to get the orange color out of blonde highlights?
most likely you'll have to buy a toner which is colour mixed with processing solution... its a violet colour that gets rid of the orange.
Reply:all you need is a purple shampoo for silver and highlighted hair like: So Silver by matrix (usually at walmart hair salons) but their are several brands available thats what I use because it works good you get a lot and its cheaper. Anyway its for orange and brassy tones in hair. (I have blonde hair and when it starts to get brassy I use this and it brings my blonde back to the beautiful blonde when I left the salon with) You put the purple shampoo on your hair and leave it for like 20 mins then rinse and condition. It will lighten just those pieces like your orange right up. You will see a huge difference after just one use but keep useing until you get your desired shade of blonde. Good Luck!!
Reply:i agree, use a toner. it will take the orange %26amp; brassy-ness out of your hair and make it look much more natural. go to a sally beauty supply store, and talk to a consultant there (they can help you pick the right one)

How can i get rid of an orange bleach stain on grey pants?

I just bought a twenty dollar pair of grey sweatpants at aeropostale JUST yesterday and i got these ugly orange spots everywhere. my mom was so mad at me. 1.) Do you think the store will let me return them? (if not) is there a way to get out the orange bleach stain? ONE last question, if there is no way to get out the bleach stain, I need a good excuise to tell so i can return it. Thank you sooo much.

How can i get rid of an orange bleach stain on grey pants?
gosh, i have the same problem except on my brown shirt..it sucks cuz that was my favorite one=[
Reply:tide pen
Reply:Well, the bleach likely removed part of the dye on your pants, that is why you get those stains. If they are not too noticeable, you can probably try and exchange them for a new pair at the store and just tell them you hadn't noticed the stains until you got home.

If you cant return them, you can try dyeing your pants again with fabric dye.

What kind of emotions should a rich orange invoke in a room?

Like green is relaxing, blue is calming, etc. What about orange? A nice dark (but not too dark) rich orange that's contrasted by white molding.

What kind of emotions should a rich orange invoke in a room?
-basic orange is the color of energy and motion:oranges, carrots, tangerines.

-if you use a muted and rich brownish orange it can have a spicy, warm, earthy and somewhat exotic feel: cinnamon, paprika, turmeric, terra cotta clay.

-if you use a bold reddish orange, it evokes feelings of passion and heat: tomato, chili peppers, persimmons.

-if you use a pastel peachy orange, it evokes feelings of playfulness and sweetness: creamsicles, peaches, cantaloupe flesh.

-if you use a bright yellowish orange, it evokes feelings of cheerfulnes and warmth: black-eyed susans, grapefruit, schoolbus.
Reply:Orange is an action color. Fast food restaurants and diners user red and orange decor to get you out there fast.

A play room, or a family room can work with Orange, but I'd leave it out of the bedrooms and kitchen.
Reply:My ORANGE office with white trim and a BLUE door invokes a feeling of extreme football fanaticism. War Damn Eagle!!!
Reply:Orange is a bright, exciting color.

If you use it in a bedroom; you should add some cool tones, like turquoise, jade green, or sky blue.
Reply:Rooms don't feel emotions. heeheehee.

ok seriously, Orange calls to mind feelings of excitement, enthusiasm, and warmth.

How can I make orange flavored dark chocolate candy?

I would like to make an orange flavored dark chocolate that I can pipe onto wax paper, that will harden and stay that way at room temperature. Any recipe suggestions?

How can I make orange flavored dark chocolate candy?
Aztec Truffles

INGREDIENTS:

2/3 cup heavy cream

12 ounces best-quality dark chocolate, finely chopped or grated

Zest from one orange

One cinnamon stick

1/3 cup best-quality cocoa powder

1 tsp cayenne pepper

DIRECTIONS:

1. Place the chopped chocolate in a large bowl and set aside.

2. Place the orange rind and the cinnamon stick with the cream in a medium heavy-bottomed saucepan, simmer until the cream just starts to boil. Remove from heat.

3. At this point you need to strain the zest and cinnamon from the cream and pour it over the chocolate. You can either hold a strainer at the lip of the saucepan and pour the cream directly over the chocolate, or if you don’t have a handheld strainer, you can place a colander in a bowl, pour the cream in the colander, and then remove the colander and pour the cream from the bowl into the chocolate.

4. Allow the hot cream and chocolate to stand for a minute, then whisk the mixture steadily but not too vigorously—you want it to be well-combined but without air bubbles. Whisk until the mixture is entirely smooth. This is your ganache.

5. Cover the ganache with cling wrap, placing the cream wrap directly on top of the ganache so that it is not exposed to air. Allow the ganache to set at room temperature for at least 4 hours, and preferably overnight. The ganache should not be refrigerated, because it might harden too rapidly and the texture will be spoiled. An overnight rest is preferable, because it allows the flavors of the orange and cinnamon cream and the chocolate to mingle and fully ripen.

6. When your ganache is firm enough to shape, scoop teaspoonfuls of ganache and place them on a foil-lined baking sheet. Repeat until you have formed as many truffles as you desire. Place the truffles in the refrigerator to harden for at least an hour.

7. Combine the cocoa powder and the cayenne in a shallow bowl or pie tin. Once the truffles are firm, coat your hand in cocoa powder and roll a truffle between your hands to get it round. Roll the truffle in the cocoa-cayenne mixture and place back on the baking sheet.

8. Once all the truffles are done, they can be stored in a single layer in an airtight container for up to a week. They are best served at room temperature when their flavor and texture is the best. Don’t let them get too warm, however, or they will start to melt!

Note: I like a bit of a kick in my truffles, and I find 1 tsp cayenne is just to my liking. If you are worried they will be too spicy for you, start with ½ tsp and go by taste. You may find that you quite enjoy a little heat with your chocolate!
Reply:make yer fudge just like always except at the end add 1 tablespoon of orange extract
Reply:Indulging in elegant chocolate-flavored desserts has great party appeal on rare occasions, perhaps a bridal shower, an anniversary celebration, or just for fun. This quintet of pastries offers many options. Plan on at least a selection of three to serve a dozen guests. That way they may sample one or all. Offer freshly brewed decaf and regular coffee with toppings of cinnamon, cocoa, raw sugar, and whipped cream, and a sidebar of liqueurs, if you wish.

Make the cakes a day or two in advance, or freeze some of the cake layers in advance and frost later. Or to simplify the preparations ask two of the guests to each bring a cake.

To serve, set out the pastries buffet style and slice thinly so guests are free to sample each kind. Set up a coffee and liqueur bar alongside.

How often should you water an indoor orange tree?

I just inherited a 20 year old orange tree from my parents. It's potted and lives in my house, and the oranges don't typically grow larger than the size of a golf ball. I live in MI and want to keep it looking good! Any tips would be appreciated!

How often should you water an indoor orange tree?
You should water it when the soil begins to feel dry when you poke your finger 1 to 2 inches into it. Watering too often can cause problems for plants, so go by soil moisture and not by a weekly time to water. You might also want to give it a little fertilizer once in a while, too. Miracle-Gro water soluble all purpose fertilizer should be a good choice. It dilutes in water and is easy to do. Follow the directions for the amount to put in the water. One application every month should be good for the fertilizer.

A 20 year old indoor plant is a rare thing.. it's really great! Take good care of it and if you start seeing problems with the tree, contact a horticulturist.. don't wait. ENJOY your new tree!
Reply:No way! I have one too! My father planted it from an orange he ate back in 1987. I water mine once a week usually Sunday. I use 1/2 gallon pitcher the whole thing...........
Reply:You know, my mom had one of those. she got it back about 1955 and it died about 1 month after she did. In 1991. It was atleast 36 years old. She watered hers about every 2 or 3 days. fertalized it once a year with miracle grow and gave it a light pruning about every 5 years. It was about 3 feet tall and bushy. I loved that old tree. Thanks for the memory
Reply:Water it.
Reply:sounds like a cumquat, they were all the rage as a potted plants with the baby boomer generation 10 - 20 years ago. they look like miniture oranges

treat them like any citrus plant, dont let them dry out and fertilise regularly.

Just bought a Moulinex JuiceMachine Pro and I'm wondering if you can put a whole orange in without peeling? Thanks!

Can you juice an orange with the peel on?
yes use a syringe iknew someone that removed the juice from a bag of oranges in france injected them with vodka or gin and carried them through customs at dover regularly.
Reply:yes I do just clean the fruit cut in half and juice
Reply:Yes
Reply:Yes, but some of the 'pith' will get into your juice %26amp; make it bitter. It will taste much better if you peel it.
Reply:You can, but I wouldn't recommend it, the pith and the pips will make it taste very bitter.

There's 2 fruits that don't work well in a juicer, one is whole oranges and the other is bananas.
Reply:yes and it will intensify the flavor.
Reply:You can but it will not taste very nice, used to have a juicer and tried that one myself, it makes thick quite sour juice.
Reply:The skins are oily and bitter so it would be better to peel the outer layer and leave some white pulp which has bioflavenoids in it
Reply:yes but it will taste vile
Reply:The zest will make it bitter.

Dye your clothes orange or red. CLR is a cleaner for calcium, rust, and lime, but I have NO idea what it would do to fabric....

How much citric acid is in an orange and in a clementine?
There is about 79% citric acid in an orange and 52.5% in a clementine and 91.7% citric acid in a lemon. Clementines have less citric acid.

What would a large orange glowing moving ball of light in the night sky be?

Bradenton, Florida, 3/15/08, 2:15am. Driving, saw a large orange glowing ball in the sky. It proceeded to move east, slowly descending, but moving rather quickly across the sky. After a few seconds of glowing, it moved farther away and the glow lightened and in a few minutes dissapeared completely. WHAT did we just see?

What would a large orange glowing moving ball of light in the night sky be?
If the object moved in a straight line, and was visible for 1-5 minutes, moving west-to-east--it could be a satellite. If it flashed or glowed brightly, maybe a meteor or some object decending into the atmosphere.

It was not the space shuttle/ISS. The Bradenton schedules for those are on the link below.
Reply:Moving east, glowing orange, and visible in the sky for a few minutes then descending and disappearing, from Florida, at 2:15am...hmmm.

The Miami Heat B-ball team perhaps.
Reply:a plane!!

your hoping an alian space craft... well VERY unlikely!
Reply:A Chinese lantern in the wind?
Reply:In all likelihood you saw either the International Space Station and the space shuttle or some other satellite passing overhead.

How can I get orange spray paint off my washer and dryer?

We recently moved and got this washer and dryer from a co-worker of my husbands, problem is that his kid got ahold of orange spray paint and it's all over the outside of the washer and dryer and on the inside of the washer. We have tried a few things but if I can't get it out then I'm going to give it back to him and buy a different set.

How can I get orange spray paint off my washer and dryer?
The newer washers and dryers are powder coated and not porcelain except for possibly the top and lid. What are the possibilities that's why they got rid of them. I suspect they tried to remove the paint and failed. It would have been a lot fresher when they tried.
Reply:also try mineral spirits.

or try a cotton ball w/ nail polish remover (test in a hidden place first)
Reply:--go to your local paint store, they have paint removers you can get,.

good luck,..,

Reply:Try lighter fluid or paint thinner The paint on the washer and dryer is baked on so you will be ok hope this helps

What type of orange tree do I have?

I am in southwest Florida. I have two orange trees in my yard. The tree branches have small thorns on them. The fruit doesn't look too healthy and when tried is sour. I think they're Navel (because of the thorns) orange trees. Any citrus experts out there?

I have started to prune some of the dead branches to get more light in. They are heavily fruited, some orange, most green. I will be trying to see about how to care for them so they can produce good fruit.

What type of orange tree do I have?
Navel oranges are not particularly thorny as citrus go. They are called Navels, because on the bottom (blossom end) of the fruit, most of them will have a navel, like your belly button. Navels should be sweet by now, and have a tendency, in south Florida, to begin to dry out, particularly the top of the larger fruit.

Citrus fruit turn orange, when they are mature, in response to cool night temperatures (usually below 55 degrees F). The color change is not related to ripeness, so it is not unusual to find green oranges in Florida that are very sweet.

Given that you describe the fruit as oranges, not tangerines, and that they are not sweet at all, you do not have an early season variety. You may have a midseason variety, such as Midsweet or Pineapple, which would be sweet in about January. Or you might have a late season Valencia, which would be sweet in March or April.

As for re-juvenating the tree, put on an application of citrus fertilizer now and trim out the dead wood. Keep the tree watered from now on. You won't see much benefit from the fertilizer till spring, but the tree will pick it up and be ready for a strong spring flush. In the spring, spray the tree with a citrus nutritional spray, and citrus oil (they can be mixed together). Small bottles of these are readily available at garden centers, and a small bottle of each will last a long time.

I am also in SW Florida. Send me an email. If you are close by I will stop by and look at them with you.

*It is possible that you have a sour orange or other rootstock sprout. However, sour orange, and most other rootstocks, have very large thorns, up to 2 inches long.
Reply:I suspect you have what is called a sour orange. Citrus trees are usually grafted, that is a delicious variety is grafted to a disease resistant rootstock. Sour orange used to be one of the most common rootstocks. It has thorns and it is very very sour. Depending on the size of the tree, you may be able to graft in a new variety or you may want to rip it out and get yourself a new one!

What are the little orange ladybug looking things?

Are they ladybugs, or some other sort of bug? I know ladybugs are bright red, but these are orange. Any tips to keep them out? Also, are they poisonous (like being eaten)? If my cats see ANYTHING moving their first thought is "it must be food!", so how diligent to I need to be?

What are the little orange ladybug looking things?
These are asian beetles, they won't harm you. Occansionaly they bite and when squished they stink. I live in MN and we get them bad in the fall, I spray my house outside with bleach/water mixture. I use a hose with one of them bottles you can attach. It helps the most. The other thing is vacuum, vacuum, vacuum. Wish there was more but not alot you can do.

here is an article of interest ~ also google Asian Beetles

Those Nasty Asian Lady Beetles!

What can I do about the hundreds of Asian lady beetles that invaded my home last fall? This is a question many Minnesotans have posed and the answer is remove them with a vacuum cleaner. Unfortunately, as they are being sucked up and crushed, they emit an unpleasant odor that may linger inside the vacuum. To prevent this odor problem place a cup-shaped gauze or nylon trap near the end of the vacuum hose, then clean out the gauze traps and dispose of the trapped beetles. Composting is a good idea.

Asian lady beetle populations are increasing in Minnesota because this species presently has no known natural enemies to control its numbers. The worst news is that they are replacing other species of lady beetles that are native to Minnesota.

Will these beetles invade my house next fall? The answer is possibly. To reduce the possibility of another invasion this fall, seal cracks and openings around windows, doors, siding and utility pipes with caulk. Install door sweeps on thresholds at the base of entry doors and repair damaged window and door screens. Installing a screen behind the attic vent will keep the bats out, too.

Hope that helps
Reply:They are lady bugs (asian beetles), they will pinch you if you pick them up but they aren't poisonious. They do stink if you get them on your hands.
Reply:i think they are poisonous but im no david atinborough
Reply:They are still ladybugs yeah!!

I think they're poisonous, have always thought it-but I'm not certain!
Reply:do they have spots? then yes, they are regular ladybugs, you can keep you pets out by keeping them inside the house....
Reply:As said above, those things also bite and hurt.
Reply:Some can look orange.

Ladybugs are not poisonous to humans. However, they can have toxic effects on some animals, but only in large numbers and rarely serious.

What does drinking orange juice do to your body?

I drink orange juice a LOT, and I know it IS good for me, but in what way?

What does drinking orange juice do to your body?
It gives you loads of calcium and can take the place of fruit (although in the long run, fruit might be a better choice because OJ has a lot of added sugar).

To clear up what the person above me said, OJ will not make you fat. He is seriously mistaken. Yes, drinking tons of it isn't good, but a couple glasses a day is fine.
Reply:Sorry to disappoint your milly but drinking lots of orange juice is not good for you atall.. that's an old myth we have been brought up on. IT is full of sugar and will make you fat and tired ( after the sugar rush ) Switch it for water and drink 2liters a day. You will feel a hell of a lot better.

Pure squeezed orange juice ( that you can buy in the shops) has been pasteurized which means its been heated up. The means that all the goodness has gone from it. And as for concentrated orange juice don't Even bother. In both cases you might as well be spoon feeding yourself sugar.

And again I can see there are others that have answered who have also been brainwashed. No Juice you buy in the super market can be considered 1 of your 5 a day... its a complete CON. For Vitamin C take a supplement

And the person who has commented below me has mis read what you said YOU CLEARLY STATED YOU DRINK LOADS OF IT MEANING THAT YOU ARE PUTTING LOADS OF SUGAR INTO YOUR SYSTEM That will turn to Fat. Read next time as you are misinformed

Hope that Helps
Reply:fresh orange is good for you its really good for vitamin C. Vitamin C helps the body absorb iron, which is important for the body. It helps you feel less tired, concerntrait more.

I dont think there are any harmful things in it, exept the natural sugars in oranges can cause tooth decay in teeth. So make sure you brush well. Or you could drink it through a straw if your really worried.

Fresh orange can also be high in calories.

But its still the best drink ever, and a 250ml glass counts as one of your 5 a day.
Reply:It gives you a good dose of vitamin C.
Reply:It's A good source of vitamin C

one glass is one of your 5 a day

How to remove orange juice from my rug?

My daughter has dropped a cup of "florida's natural orange juice" on the living room rug.

Is as if my rug has been bleached.

How to remove orange juice from my rug?
If it has removed the color, you cannot fix that. Do you happen to have a piece of that rug left over? If so, you can replace the section in your rug that has been damaged by actually carefully cutting out a piece and replacing it with another. If you have some of the rug, just make sure you keep the direction of the pile the same in the piece you insert. I have done this to remove a stain ifrom a new rug and the piece was still there and unnoticeable years later when I sold the house.
Reply:The acid probably killed the pigment in the wool. I don't think there's anything you can do now. Sorry about the rug. Next time douse it with water.

3 or 4
Reply:It would only take about one orange to make juice because you can then add water and sugar to taste. Straight juice, or rather too much of it can give you the runs if yu know what I mean
Reply:200 little ones
Reply:It depends on the size and juice content of fruits or vegetables.
Reply:a million kagillion infinite.
Reply:u cant juice a banana or carrot.....uhh duh.... y dont you just try juicing the apple and orange to find out
Reply:Depends on the size of the glass!
Reply:You need to know the size of the glass, the size of the pieces of fruit and how much juice is obtained from each piece of fruit to calculate the answer.

That's why you are getting goofy answers.
Reply:For orange juice?? 2 or 3 but it depends if they are really juicy. I don't know about the other ones though.
Reply:1 if you have a good juicer
Reply:An eight ounce glass of juice will take about 6 oranges. Even though it is a lot, the taste is worth it. Carrots a lot, at least a whole bunch. NOt sure about apples or bananas, but, probably qute a bit.

How do you pick a good orange?

How do you pick a good seedless orange at the store? When are they in season? Lately, I get oranges where it is almost impossible to peel the skin off. Sometimes they are dried out at the tips of each slice. Help!

How do you pick a good orange?
The reason you have gotten weird oranges that just won't peel, etc. is because of the drought and hurricanes in florida the past year or so. Oranges are picked before they ripen fully. By the time they get to market they are fairly ripe. Get an orange with a little bit of give to the squeeze. This means that your orange is ripe and all juicy inside. Too firm of an orange means that it is not quite ripe yet. An orange with too much squeeze to it means it is over ripe and will probably be near the moldy side if you don't eat it within a day or so. To ripen fruit place them in a paper bag in the refrigerator or a few days. Don't forget them...and keep a close eye on them for mold, like they say one bad apple spoils the lot...well its true-one moldy orange will transfer mold to the others. If you do get a moldy one but the others are still ok, rinse them off as you eat them and remove the bad orange and change bowls/containers, or clean out the bin REALLY good!
Reply:Pick the heaviest orange, the heaviest the oranges are the more juice they have, and try to pick on the oranges that have thin skin rather that the thick and fluffy skin. Hope this help

How long does orange juice in a carton stay fresh if its unrefrigerated?

I got a carton of orange juice (tropicana no pulp) last night and forgot to put it in the refrigerator. I put it away when I got up this morning, but it sat for 10-12 hours on the counter.

Is it still good or does OJ in cartons spoil that quickly? It was never opened. Is it still OK to drink?

How long does orange juice in a carton stay fresh if its unrefrigerated?
The general rule of thumb for any food left out is about 3 hours. You could open it up and smell it. Chances are it will start to 'ferment' first and smell a little like wine. I generally don't find it worth the risk because the whole time I am drinking/eating the item left out I think it tastes 'funny'.
Reply:Well im not a scientist or anything, if it was overnight then im guessing it wasnt extremely hot, and i dont think it would expire as fast as milk or anything like that, id say try a small glass and if it tastes bad then its bad.
Reply:If it was never opened it should be fine, of course if it was really warm in your house last night It might not be. But normally, orange juice is stays good for a while if it is not opened.
Reply:Orange juice is very acidic and as a result, little will grow in it. I would say 2 days at ambient room temperature (68 degrees F). If it is hotter where you live, 1 day max.

Can I correct my orange hair by putting another color over it?

I have naturally darkest brown hair which I had bleached and dyed and it's supposed to be "golden" blonde, but it looks a little orange, not a lot, just a little, and only in certain kinds of light. It's almost there. So my question is, if I buy an ash blonde color and put it over the orange, will it come out the color on the box? Also, should I buy a shade darker or lighter than my haircolor now? I had the bleaching done in a salon and I'm not willing to try it myself.

Can I correct my orange hair by putting another color over it?
Never agree to colour your hair with the words warm/golden/burnt or other such adjectives if you dont wanna go ginger.

I used to colour/bleach/colour my hair over and over again. its not a problem to colour over the top. I think your hair will be porous now and would strongly suggest you get a shade lighter than the colour on the box as they tend to be darker.

I think ash blonde could send you back to dark hair as they are not very light looking. But then again it would tone down the flamey coloured hair. i think light ash blonde is what you want.
Reply:yeah all ash colors get red and orange out. umm i think for now go a little darker and then later on get lighter. thats what i did.

Do you have to peel an orange before putting it through a juicer?

My new juicer has a very wide feeder and would be able to feed a whole orange through it. It's just that most juice recipes suggest that you peel the orange first. Is it a MUST? What's wrong with leaving the skin on? It is the same for lemons %26amp; limes?

Do you have to peel an orange before putting it through a juicer?
The skin of citrus fruits has the 2 main layers; the very top outer layer (which is the color of the fruit) that contains the essential oils that is used in cooking and baking, then just below that is the white part, or the pith (that you peel off with the top layer) and the white part is rather bitter.

I recommend peeling them first before juicing.
Reply:I am pretty sure you would have to still peel it - the wider mouth means you could probably put a half or small whole one through saving you time in not chopping it up. If you still have it why not check the manual?? Enjoy the juice!!
Reply:you could do it and it would not hurt the juicer but the problem is the white pith under the outside part that you zest it will make it taste nasty and bitter same goes for all citrus fruit.
Reply:Yes, if you don't it will wear down the blades and burn out the motor quicker. Plus.....citrus peel - the white part - is very bitter....why would you want to add that flavor to your drink?
Reply:The peel and pith are very bitter. If you don't believe then take a bite of any citrus peel and decide for yourself.
Reply:Yes, peel all citrus before juicing!

Enjoy!
Reply:Try to do it with the peel on and let me know how it tastes.

Good luck.
