I got a magenta permanent marker on a orange cotton shirt. I have only worn the shirt twice before. I would like to get the marker stain out without bleaching the shirt. Anyone know how?
How do you get out permanent marker out of a orange cotton shirt?
Dab some rubbing alcohol on the stain.:)
Reply:Did it ever occur to you that the fact your shirt is orange is totally irrelevant?
If you had purchased a permanent marker with the intention of marking on a cotton shirt and then *it came out*, wouldn't you feel the manufacturer of the permanent marker had cheated you by labeling their product "permanent"?
Reply:dry cleaners, petroleum distillates similar to paint thinner will work.
Reply:I found this answer to another similiar question on yahoo so I can't take the credit for it. There was a comment that it did work for someone.
Permanent Marker Stain Removal from Clothing
You can try to remove permanent marker stains by rinsing the stains with cold water until the water runs clear. Place the fabric on a paper towel, then saturate the stains with rubbing alcohol, using a cotton ball as a blotter. Change paper towels as necessary as it absorbs the color. Wash the garment in the hottest water possible for the fabric, adding bleach (color-safe for colored fabrics), then rinse in warm water. Unfortunately, permanent marker is called permanent for a reason and cannot always be removed...good luck!...=)
Reply:If it is not to big....cut a matching size from the part of the shirt you tuck in or from the back somewhere. Cut the damaged area out and replace it with the new one.....Pure Genius
Reply:Why did you ask this question like 6 times???? Its a PERMANENT MARKER
Reply:Permanent marker tends to be permanent. You may want to try a solvent based cleaner as a last ditch effort. Rubbing alcohol may work. Test in a hidden area first for color fastness in your car and clothes. I worked with a solvent last night that said it was fabric safe and would remove marker from carpet. If you go to your local home improvement store and explain to them your problem. They should be able to direct you towards a good solvent cleaner. Thats the main thing to remember water based cleaners are not going to work.
But as stated before permanent marker may not come out.
You might alsso try rubbing alcohol full strength, just pour it on the stain, and then add some dawn for dishes, let it stay a few moments and then use warm not hot water and run it through the stain.
