What is that reddish-orange stuff you sometimes see that looks like it's been spilt on the freeway? My mother thinks it's blood, but I think it must be paint or something used to clean up accidents. I've asked the local California Highway Patrol and every similar org I can think of.

if it kinda spreads like dust or mulch, u are probably thinking of the stuff they use to soak up liquids (usually from accidents). things like that are usually a mixture of chemicals and wood shavings.
Reply:Roadkill Gravy.
Sometimes there are little chunks of meat left.
Reply:Hard to say. Sometimes Flourescent paint is used to mark water lines and utilities on the side of the road.
Reply:IN MOST CASES IT IS AN ABSORBENT PRODUCT THAT IS USED TO PICK UP SPILLS.
